Be Yourself (& Love It!)

“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”

– Joyce Meyer

It’s amazing how, the older I get, the more I discover the beauty and rest found in being myself.  I personally wasted too many years of my life trying to look like somebody I wasn’t, act like someone I was not, and do things that I wasn’t gifted to do in hopes of feeling loved and accepted– and it was exhausting! It was a poor use of the precious, unique gift of life that God gave me because, in the end, I became a cheap imitation of someone else rather than the unique creation God intended me to be. It took me a long time to learn that no matter what I did, there were still people who didn’t like me anyway.

Here is a man who got it–David poetically declared in Psalms 139, “I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” How beautiful that each of us were thoughtfully pieced together, handcrafted; every unique feature, every attribute, all a purposeful design of the master Creator.  Don’t let the twisted and deceptive nature of sin distort your perception of yourself–the beautiful and perfect miracle you truly are. You are His creation and He loves and accepts you unconditionally.

Once you have the revelation that you are completely loved and accepted in Christ, you no longer have to fear the rejection that sometimes comes with being yourself. As one of my favorites authors, Joyce Meyer, says, “Once we understand how God sees us through Christ, we can refrain from caring what people think about us, and feeling bad about ourselves. We don’t  have to be addicted to their approval, because we already have God’s.” The moment I understood this was the moment I became free. Yes, I am silly and weird and I look unique–it’s who I am— I don’t care what anyone else thinks anymore!

In the same way, be you–Don’t deprive the world of the beauty & quirkiness only you can bring! Remember that confident people have just as many weaknesses as everyone else, they just focus on their unique strengths–and our main source of strength is God’s unfailable love for us. Get comfortable in your skin, be free and grace the world with You!

Love,

Patricia
