Building a Better Easter Basket

Hey momma chicks! There are some really cute ideas for Easter baskets and some awesome candy-free options these days to keep your kid from going into a sugar coma this Easter.

For baskets :

  • First of all, look at some options other than baskets on Pinterest. Unless you’re going to reuse the one from last year, buying a tchotchke basket every year seems like such a waste. I’ve had some friends use a kid’s umbrella, and a helmet instead of a basket. Bug nets and hats are also a cute idea. This year I think I’m going to use a sand pail.
  • For the innards check out the dollar section at Target. They have an awesome selection of kids toys and things. Here are some great ideas for filling their baskets:
    • Bath foam, bath crayons
    • Coloring books, Crayons, markers, or watercolor paints
    • Beach or bath toys
    • Hair bows/accessories for girls
    • Bug kits
    • “Paint your own/Build your own…” kids craft from the craft store
    • Tickets (to take them to a movie or the skating rink)
    • A fun character toothbrush
    • A Small book
    • Bubbles
    • Play Dough
    • A Kite
    • Their favorite snack foods -granola bars, gummies, snack sized chips (they’re not the healthiest but they’re better than candy in my opinion)
    • Xylitol gum
    • If your going to use candy go for chocolate options. They are less likely to get stuck in your kid’s teeth and cause cavities and they’re also less likely to have unhealthy dye additives
  • For Easter eggs try some candy alternatives like:
    • Coins/cash
    • Temporary tattoos
    • Stickers
    • Play rings
    • Super balls
    • Bracelets
    • Lego figurines or any small figurines
    • Water Balloons
    • Goldfish crackers

Hope some of these ideas will help inspire you to fill your little bunny’s baskets with so much fun stuff they won’t even miss the sugar. Share some of your favorite candy alternative ideas in the comments. Happy Easter!

Love,

Rachel
